SEEKONK, Mass. (WJAR) — A police department in Massachusetts has welcomed its newest member!

Mac, an 8-week-old English Lab, is Seekonk's Police Department's third K-9, but their first comfort dog.
Officials said he will be working with school resource officers as a comfort dog.

Mac did not officially have a name until Friday, which is when the department revealed the results of a naming contest.
WJAR asked Seekonk Police School Resource Officer Kevin Nagle how the name Mac came to be.
It [the name Mac] kept popping up over and over again, so we kind of pulled between some of the schools," Nagle said. "I was thinking of what some of the options are, talking to the guys here at the station, and Mac it was. That seemed to be the winner. "
The puppy was donated by Boonefield Labradors and arrived at the station Friday morning.
Police shared several photos of the pup on social media, with the adorable dog greeting children at a recent community event.
