A new body camera video shows a police officer rescuing a man from a burning car after a crash early Tuesday morning.

The flames were intense as officers with the Beaverton Police Department in Oregon rushed to the car and tried to smash a window open.

It happened near the intersection of Southwest Hocken Avenue and Jenkins Road.

They said Johan Hermosillo, 34, was trapped inside the car.

The officer broke the sunroof but then heard small explosions and had to back up.

Police told KATU Hermosillo was unresponsive, so the officer went back to the car to pull him to safety.

The video shows the officer pulling Hermosillo out of the sunroof by his shirt and arms. Hermosillo was hurt but was expected to survive.

Officers said they believe he was impaired. Hermosillo was cited for DUI and reckless driving.

Police said this was just one example of how officers put their lives on the line for people every day.
