MUNDAY, Texas (KTXS) -- A Texas girl who made hand sewn masks for hospitals has died.

Lexi Brooke Collins, 10, was killed Friday in an ATV accident.

KTXS featured Lexi on April 6. Anson General Hospital wanted to thank her for the masks she made for healthcare workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

"Anson General Hospital received a very kind donation of hand sewn face masks from a Munday, TX 5th grader. Thank you, Lexi Collins!! We are thankful for YOU!" said the hospital staff.

According to her obituary, Lexi "spent countless hours making much needed facial masks (approximately 100) for the Knox County community and surrounding counties."

That was especially fitting because her mom, grandmother, aunt and uncle are all nurses, according to Munday City Councilwoman Karen Logan.

"Lexi was a remarkable child. She was bright, talented, wise beyond her years, but overall had the most precious spirit I've ever known," said Logan. "She was always smiling."

A candlelight vigil was held in her honor Sunday night. People were asked to bring candles, flashlights or cellphone lights and gather on the sidewalk, at least six feet apart.

Her funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday in Munday, Texas.

According to the obituary on McCauley-Smith Funeral Home's Facebook page, any one who attends must wear a face mask, practice social distancing and self quarantine for 14 days afterward.

TRIBUTES TO LEXI

People are tying turquoise ribbons around trees in Munday and Benjamin in Lexi's honor. Turquoise was her favorite color.

Logan said there will be a tribute area at Munday Elementary School. People can bring notes and flowers to leave for the family.

The Keep Munday Beautiful committee will have a bronze statue erected in Centennial Park in Lexi's honor. If you would like to contribute, write a check to Keep Munday Beautiful and write "LEXI" in the memo and drop it off at Buds for You or mail it to:

Turquoise t-shirts that say Live Like Lexi are also being sold to raise money for the memorial.
