WASHINGTON (SBG) – A heavy-weight fight right now seems to be underway between President Donald Trump and state leaders over who has the authority to reopen parts of the country.

On Tuesday, the president met with recovered coronavirus patients at the White House. The number of those treated and now doing well may factor into his desire to reopen, but who makes that decision is at the heart of a brewing debate.

More than half a dozen governors in the Northeast and several out west are banding together to help reach a conclusion, but President Trump has insisted that he is in charge. During his press conference Tuesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that Trump's proclamation made him sound like a king.

His proclamation is that he would be king. That’s what a king is. A king has total authority. That statement cannot stand. The whole mutiny on the bounty, the governors are mutineers, whatever that means.

The Governor was referring to the president's tweet, in which is said to "tell the Democrat Governors that “Mutiny On The Bounty” was one of my all time favorite movies. A good old fashioned mutiny every now and then is an exciting and invigorating thing to watch, especially when the mutineers need so much from the Captain. Too easy!"

But some say a power struggle isn't needed— just an understanding. “Look, I think the best way to deal with this this is locally. Miami is not New York. New York is not Oklahoma City," Mayor Francis Suarez (R- Miami) said. "You know, all the cities are different, they have different densities, they have different topographies, and different climates.”

Perhaps clarifying matters a bit, President Trump Tuesday afternoon said his decisions will be made in conjunction with governors and what he called other talented people, and those decisions, he said, will come quickly.
